An Amazing Man

My Dad

He is honest, supportive, respected by all, hilarious, trustworthy, positive, caring, responsible, kind, patient, charming...I could go on and on and on.

Even though I am 35 years old (not sure how that happened), I still call him "daddy."

He is an amazing father, but an even better "Pop."  My children ADORE him.  He makes a point to tell them every single time he sees them that he is proud of them.  They may not grasp that compliment right now, but they will when they are older.

I love this man!

Merry Christmas from the newest member of our family!

My children received their first dog for Christmas (he is my first dog, too).  Santa brought him all the way from the North Pole.

Murphy and I wish you a Merry Christmas!

Santa at Phipps

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Our annual visit to see Santa at Phipps was, once again, successful!  I can't tell you how wonderful he is.  He is patient and kind.  He talks to the children and listens to their every wish.

As crazy as it sounds, we made our appointment to see him back in October.  The online appointment system opens in early October.  The appointments are typically taken within 24 hours!

Not only do they take several pictures, but they record the visit with Santa and put it on a DVD.  You can hear every precious word that he says.  And the best part.....we have never waited more than 10 minutes to see him.

He reviews all of the wishes on their wish lists.  Then the lists are added to the Wish List box so that Santa doesn't forget what the children are hoping for.

What's on your list?

70 Something

 Merry Christmas!

Every year, the Saturday before Christmas, we celebrate with my mother's side of the family.  My mom is one of 9 children.  9!  There are so many of us that we have to have holiday gatherings in a church fellowship hall!  This year we had over 70 people there.  I'm not kidding.

This is my sweet grandmother.  She is 93 years old.  I wish you could see that her hair is in a ponytail.  When I asked her how she was feeling, she responded with "really great for a woman so young."  Not only is she funny, but she is tough!  She had all 9 children at home without any meds.  Her first child weighed 11 pounds.  She also gave birth to twins (my mom and her sister).

We are very lucky to still have her around.

We enjoyed a great dinner complete with ham, turkey, dressing, and fried chicken.  Yep, we live in the south.

Max had a basketball game and had to eat in a hurry.

Here is Charlie with his big boy cup.  I wish you could see his sweet sweater.  My sister's son, Henry, wore this when he was little.  It's a Talbots sweater with a white polar bear on it.  I made sure it was clean so that he could wear it and show Henry.

He looked so sweet in it.  I couldn't wait to get a picture of him with Henry.  But I did have to wait.  In fact, it may never happen.  Shortly after I took the picture above, Charlie got choked on a chicken nugget.  Everything he had eaten then resided on his clothes.  So.......

Here is how my child looked at our early Christmas lunch.  Proud moment.  White t-shirt, diaper, and socks.  Not at ALL what I had planned.

But overall, it didn't matter.  In fact, it gave us a lot to laugh about.  From the picture above, Henry would have been too cool to take that picture I wanted anyway.  :)

Merry Christmas!!!

Where is the Snow?

The weather was miserable this week.  It was freezing! It was the kind of cold that hurts your bones.  We just aren't used to 13 degree mornings that feel like 3 degrees.  To me, it shouldn't be that cold unless there is SNOW on the ground.  Fluffy snow.

We ended up getting some freezing rain and sleet on Wednesday night.  Ice is not fun.

It was enough to cause the roads to be very slick.  We southerners are not accustomed to black ice.

I certainly don't drive in the snow or ice.

I love days when we "can't" go anywhere.

Building a fire and drinking hot chocolate.

Watching Home Alone and The Grinch a couple of times each.

I love those days....and hope we have some snow days soon!

Hostess Gifts or Treats for Party Guests

I made these as hostess gifts
and treats for my Christmas guests.

I wanted to put something together that was fun and personalized.  The Merry Christmas signs and toppers were made by Serena at Rylie Boo Events.  I recently won a fabulous giveaway from Serena.  Her stuff is adorable! I can't wait to use it all again this weekend!

I purchased Starbucks coffee and hot chocolate to put in the boxes.  The paper cups and straws are from Garnish.  I could spend a fortune on that website.

I made the ornaments.  No, they aren't fancy.  But they are personalized!  That counts, right?

Overall, these were pretty inexpensive to make/create.  Even though they weren't pricey, they are pretty fun.  I also baked (which I hate to do) peppermint cookies.  These cookies are my MOST FAVORITE cookies.  I can't tell you how good they are.  I just wish I was better at making them.

Seriously, I can't have those cookies in my house without supervision.

This would be a pretty simple thing to throw together for Christmas hostess gifts, neighbors, or winter gifts.  You could always paint hearts on the cups for Valentine's Day.

Happy Hump Day!

I Don't Bake

Mack bakes.  I don't bake.  Well, not if I can help it.
See, I don't like to measure things.  I like adding a dash or pinch until it tastes right.  Not to mention that I rarely eat sweets.  And isn't that the point of baking?  To eat the product?

But, my children love to bake.  And to eat the product.  So, we bake.  Cookies.

Let's just be honest for a minute.  It's awfully messy to bake.  Especially when you have three children helping you.  I highly recommend not using little sprinkles that don't have the top with little holes.  If you do, there is a strong possibility that you will find them all over your home for weeks to come.

My children love the entire process.  Including using the rolling pin.

Tic Tac Toe ~ Three in a Row!

(I'm not sure what is going on with her hair.)

I will say, I love the smell of sugar cookies baking in the oven.  They smell delicious.

Waiting is a hard thing to do.

Messy, but worth it!

So Stinking Excited!

I can't tell you how excited I am that I recently won a giveaway for a party pack from Rylie Boo Events!

I found her giveaway while reading Oh Goodie Designs (link on the right side of my blog).  I don't miss a single post by Joanne.  Her blog is so much fun to read!

Serena Baker was generous enough to give away one full party pack (valued at $110) to one reader of Oh Goodie Designs....and I WON!!!

I even got to choose which theme I wanted for my fun prize.

Serena is party planner. She is both creative and talented!
She has FANTASTIC ideas.

And the best part???  She is precious!  Serena was so easy to work with.  She not only helped me decide on the package, but she gave me several ideas/suggestions to make my table/party perfect.  I think she is as excited about my upcoming Christmas party as I am.  I can't wait to get my package in the mail.

You HAVE to check out her website.  She has so many party ideas!  I have already started coming up with more reasons to throw parties.

Head on over to http://ryliebooevents.com/Home.php to see some of her ideas.  I promise you won't be disappointed.

Last night we watched the Polar Express for the first time this season.  We broke the rules and let them eat pizza in the living room.  They were mesmerized.

I'm pretty sure that we will be having a few more movie nights this month.

Charlie was VERY interested in the fire we built.  It only seemed right to have a fire and hot chocolate.

He helped Mack tend to the fire.

And in case you are wondering, that crazy train is still circling the tree.  Well, until Charlie takes it off to play with it.

Time to wrap some more gifts!
